Hi, my name is August Hawkins. I was born not long ago in Kansas City. My Mom is from Kansas, USA and my Dad is from Ontario, Canada
I have been wondering about where I come from. I know that my Mom made me but my Dad says that only part of the plans she used to make me came from her and the other part came from him. (My Dad is a builder and he is always talking about plans and things!)
So part of me comes from my Mom and part from my Dad. That's two people. But they had parents too. So they must have been made from plans from their moms and dads. If all this is right, I am made from plans that came from my grandparents. That's four people. But wait, my grandparents had parents too! That's now eight people that I come from and they had parents too! You can see where this is going. It makes my head spin. There are a lot of people that I come from!
Who were all of these people?
Part of the answer comes from my full name - Augustine Gerant Mitchell Hawkins. Hawkins is for my Dad and Grandpa Hawkins. Gerant is for my Mom and Grandpa Gerant. Mitchell is for my Grandma Mitchell. Augustine is the name of my Grandma Michel's father. So that's a start. But who were all the other people that I come from?
My Grandpa Hawkins has done a lot of work finding out about my Dad's family. So that is half of my story. Now, with the help of my grandparents and great grandparents I am going to find out about the other half of my story!
(The picture at the top of the page is my 4th great grandfather - John William Bowhay and his grandchildren. The other picture is of my 2nd great grandparents - Josef Gerant and Ann Palcher. They came to America from Slovenia in 1896.)
